A Flat white door now looks like an old
door composed of riveted metal.

A chalkboard appears to be hanging
on the wall.
McCormick's Deli (no
relation to the artist)
appears to be carved into a section of
the framing wood. Using a special
chalkboard paint, this trompe l'oeil
chalkboard is functional as daily
specialties can be shared with hungry
shoppers. Some spare chalk and a rag
hang on the ledge for when when
specials need to be rewritten.

Existing maroon styrofoam letters
were painted to look like corroded
copper

Niches display a collection of baked
goods, and an array of cheeses

This flat-front deli counter now houses
a sack of baguettes, an old barrel, and
a wood case for cheddar. Braided
cloves of garlic hang from undernieth
the countertop.
Existing maroon styrofoam letters were
given even more three-dimensionality
as they now look like part of an old
wooden sign that has been hanging
long enough for fresh produce to
creep up to it.

Old World Grocery Store              Created: August 2006              Location: Unity, ME

A grocery store with white sheet-rock walls was a blank canvas for painted illusions. Using trompe l'oeil, this mural was designed to
convey the atmosphore of an old world bakery and marketplace. The flat white walls are painted to look like aged brick and stucco,
with elements of surprise that may make shoppers believe what they are seeing on flat walls. A metal heat vent above a modern
pizza oven, now looks like the words "Fresh Pizza" were painted on bricks years ago. Heavy iron doors of a brick oven pizza leap out
from the wall , and baking tools are set aside on the makeshift shelf. Meats are hanging on a rack nearby, ready for the chef to
easily snag (but not consume!). On the wall hangs a wooden pizza retriever that has seen many pies.
